New Orleans is known for its outstanding food, authentic culture, beautiful architecture and amazing music. I’ve visited New Orleans many times through the years, and have enjoyed all those things. But one of the standouts to me has nothing to do with the city’s unique culture. The National WWII Museum provides a look at one of the most important periods in modern world history, and it’s located in the heart of the New Orleans Central Business District.

Hotel Review: Westin Memphis Beale Street

Westin Memphis Beale Street

When we choose a hotel for a trip, a number of criteria go into the selection. It really depends on what we’re wanting to get out of the stay, but location is consistently near the top. I want to be able to either walk or have a short drive to most of what we’re in town to experience. So when we found ourselves staying the weekend in Memphis for our NBA Road Trip series, having a hotel near the action at FedExForum was a plus. The fact museums, restaurants, shopping and nightlife also were all within walking distance made the Westin Memphis Beale Street hotel a good choice for this trip. But could it be a winner for us?

48 Hours in Memphis

Our recent weekend stay in Downtown Memphis was centered on attending a Memphis Grizzlies game as part of the third installment of our NBA Road Trip Series. But we discovered so much more than just NBA fun during our 48 hours in Memphis experience. And on the surface, that might seem hard to believe, considering we’re residents of the Memphis area. But staying in a downtown hotel helped us enjoy 48 hours in Memphis like we’ve never done before.

Exploring New Orleans French Market

French Market

There’s a lot to see in New Orleans that could be considered hokey or a tourist trap. The French Quarter is full of them, really, starting with Bourbon Street. If you’re looking for the real New Orleans, only part of the story will be found in the French Quarter. But I’ve spent a lot of time in New Orleans over the past 20 years, and much of that time has been spent in the French Quarter. And one of the spots I keep returning to is the New Orleans French Market. It’s a simple food market mixed with lots of trinkets, clothing and souvenirs for sale. And it’s one of my favorite spots in the French Quarter.
