I celebrated turning 37 on Jan. 8 with a listing of 13 of my 37 life travel moments. If you read the first post, you were introduced to the baby road tripper, the kid in knee-high socks at South Beach, the college kid falling in love with Bourbon Street, and the shame of eating at Hard Rock Cafe in Paris. Now that you enjoyed the appetizer, it’s time for the main course. If you’re considering a visit to England for the first time, chances are you’re only thinking about London. As much as I love the capital city, for my money, I’m going out to some of the “other” British cities. And I’m not talking small villages, even though some of my favorite places on Earth are English villages. I have lots of favorites, but if you’re thinking about a first-time visit to the United Kingdom, here are my favorite four non-London England cities to visit. When we visit the U.K. we’ve always had a car, but all of these cities are accessible via train and motorcoach.

Stuffed animal friends, an iPhone, Nintendo DS, crayons and a bag of toys were huge in helping us enjoy Europe.

When we took our then-5-year-old son to Europe, some people wondered how we’d be able to enjoy all the sites, great food and culture of Paris, Scotland and England. After all, traveling to Europe with kids can provide unique challenges. It wasn’t always easy, but with five must-have items, we were able to not only survive Europe with our son but greatly enjoy it. These five items will help other parents enjoy Europe with kids.
