The alarm clock wakes me from a deep slumber, one that was induced by a long day and night in the summer heat. Only I begin to realize this alarm isn’t a clock but the curtains on our massive hotel room window being thrown open to let in the light reflecting up from the Mississippi River below. “Dad! Wake up! It’s time to order room service and play soccer hockey!” This “wake-up call” is from an 8-year-old boy imploring me to get going on this final day of our three-day father-son St. Louis baseball weekend. This past year has brought so many great travel experiences and discoveries, not to mention wonderful people I’ve been able to meet. Trips By Lance was launched in 2012 as a travel-planning business, but in February 2013 I switched the focus to a travel blog to share the wonderful experiences we are discovering in this great world. 2013 exposed me to new ideas, experiences and places. Here are some of my favorites in this 2013 travel year in review.
I’m a Type A, crazy intense trip planner. I don’t like surprises, and I’m not a fan of “going with the flow.”
Traveling to Europe with a 6-year-old boy, however, helped me realize that as much as I want to I can’t control every detail of a trip.
But tonight, I find myself itching to get in the car and drive north four hours for a spur-of-the-moment road trip. I want to go to St. Louis.
